The Kayin traditional wrist-ty­ing ceremony was held in Myaungmya of Ayeyawady re­gion yesterday morning.

 

The ceremony was opened by Mahn Nyein Maung, a mem­ber of the State Administration Council, by beating the frog drum nine times and delivering a greeting speech.

 

The regional chief minister, the leader of the advisory group of the SAC and the command­er of the South-West Command gave greeting speeches.

 

 

Regional Ethnic Affairs Min­ister U Saw Lin Khel explained the purpose of the ceremony. Mahn Thein Kyaw, Chairman of the Kayin Ethnic Literature and Culture Association of Ay­eyawady Region, gave a word of thanks.

 

Then, young Kayin youths carried white cotton items and placed them in front of Mahn Nyein Maung and other officials. They offered the white cotton items to them.

 

During the wrist-tying cere­mony, they performed traditional Kayin ethnic dances, and they sang the Kayin national song and the ceremony came to a close. — MNA/KZW
