State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minis­ter Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo, in his capacity as Chairman of the Myanmar National Cultural Central Committee, delivered a speech at the 6th meeting, held at the Ministry of Religious Af­fairs and Culture in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister said all citizens should preserve cultural assets both tangible and intangible. The three Pyu ancient cities such as Hanlin, Sri Ksetra and Beikthano and Bagan cultural heritage sites are on the list of world heritage. The Nomina­tion Dossier (Complete) of the MraukU cultural heritage site was also submitted to World Heritage Committee on 30 De­cember 2021.

 

Out of thousands of intangi­ble cultural heritage from My­anmar, Myanma Thanaka was submitted to UNESCO in 2020 as intangible cultural heritage and the documents are being revised now as it needs certain facts mentioned in the reply.

 

Moreover, the Nomination Dossier for Myanmar’s tradi­tional Thingyan festival was submitted to UNESCO on 24 March 2023 to be on the world intangible cultural heritage list.

 

The Ministry of Religious Af­fairs and Culture announced 2,289 kinds of intangible cultural heritage as Myanmar’s nation­al intangible cultural heritage registration (first time) on 26 March 2020 with notification no 2/2020. The needed law and rules are also revived to pro­tect and conserve the cultural heritages.

 

He also talked about the emergence of private museums, arrangements to enact the My­anmar museum draft law and the conservation of intangible cultural heritage law (draft).

 

Then, Committee Vice- Chair Union Minister for Reli­gious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko explained the exploration and conservation of ancient cultural heritage, the forma­tion of a national intangible cultural heritage conservation committee, the establishment of museums representing the country and ethnic people and the enactment of Myanmar mu­seum draft law.

 

Secretary of the Committee Deputy Minister Daw Nu Mra Zan also presented the com­pleted work plans set at the 5th committee meeting, ongoing and future work plans and the attendees coordinated the dis­cussion.

 

The Deputy Prime Minis­ter called on the participants to work together in conserv­ing the tangible and intangible cultural heritages, be aware of the country’s intangible cultur­al heritage to prevent it from being copied by other countries, and appreciated the achieve­ments of the central committee. — MNA/KTZH
