CHAIRMAN of the Nation­al Disaster Management Committee, Vice-Chair­man of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win yesterday inspected damaged staff housing caused by the Man­dalay earthquake and renovation of the No 1 Myoma Market of Py­inmana and Ottarathiri Market.

 

The Vice-Senior General looked into damage to quake-af­fected housing of Union minis­ters and the repair process in Zeyatheikdi Ward in Zabuthiri Township and coordinated with officials to fulfil the needs.

 

At the orange-level iden­tified Building 3384 and the blue-level identified Building 3383 in Nyana Theikdi Ward of Zabuthiri Township, the Vice-Senior General inspected the repairing of quake-affect­ed buildings by the Myanmar Licensed Contractors Associ­ation under the SOP issued by the Building Renovation and New Construction Supervisory Committee and instructed offi­cials to use reusable materials in renovation tasks, carry out sanitation inside and outside the buildings and the environment and manage water pipelines and electric cables.

 

The No 1 Myoma Market of Pyinmana was built on 4.375 acres of land in 1996. The earth­quake destroyed 393 shops from the A and B complexes of the four-complex market.

 

The Vice-Senior General inspected the clearing of debris at the quake-affected A and B complexes of the market. Offi­cials reported on the invitation of EOI under the permission of the State Administration Coun­cil to rebuild the new market, and verification of designs sub­mitted by applicant companies for technological proposal and administrative measures. The Vice-Senior General gave nec­essary instructions.

 

At the Ottarathiri Dam, lo­cated on Kyaukoh Creek in Ot­tarathiri Township, the Vice-Sen­ior General viewed the leakage of water from the conduit of the dam due to the Mandalay earth­quake and aftershocks, and re­pair of the earthen embankment and gave necessary instructions to officials.

 

The dam has 1,500 acres of watershed area with a 60-foot by 1,120-foot earthen embankment. It aims to supply sufficient drink­ing water to the dwellers.

 

Renovation of the 17-year-old dam is being carried out as quickly as possible. — MNA/TTA
