Sagaing Regional govt. auctions off 294 fishing lakes

The Sagaing Regional government earned more than Ks. 15 billion by auctioning off 294 fishing lakes for the fiscal year 2018-2019, according to a source from the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

U Tun Tun Win, the head of the Department of Fisheries for Sagaing Region said that the fishing lakes in the region were sold out through a bidding system in an attempt to make money for the country and facilitate the likelihood of marine workers and their employers. The remaining fishing lakes will be auctioned off, he added.

There were 79 fishing lakes in Sagaing District, 12 in Shwebo District, 18 in Monywa District, 17 in Yinmabin District, 130 in Katha District, 8 in Kalay District, 11 in Mawlaik District, 12 in Khamti District and 7 in Tamu District totaling 294 that had been auctioned off so far.—Win Oo (Zeyar Taing)
