Sagaing, 20 February

Sagaing Township, located in Sagaing Region, has successfully planted 26,911 acres of chickpeas during this planting season, surpassing last year’s acreage by two acres, according to the Sagaing Township Agriculture Department.

“We are assisting farmers with technology and guidance through our field staff, promoting the use of high-yielding varieties suitable for the region, enhancing planting systems, and ensuring effective pest and disease management,” said U Myo Thant Aung, head of the Township Agriculture Department.

“Chickpeas are typically grown as a mid-season crop after paddy. This year, the planting season has been particularly wet, and the chickpea fields are flourishing. We have continuously provided knowledge on pest prevention and seed treatment methods before sowing,” added a field official.

Chickpeas are being cultivated across 65 village tracts, and the area under cultivation has increased compared to the same period last year.
