A ceremony to open Shan new year festival was held in Hwehmun Village, Hpapun Township, Kayin State yesterday evening.

First of all, the state Hluttaw Representatives U Saw Win Htein and U Aik Kyan Kham, the township Administrator U Zaw Zaw and chairman of Shan Literature and culture committee U Sai Phoe Khin cut a ribbon to formally open the ceremony. 

Afterwards, AyethukaKyaung Sayadaw delivered an opening speech.

With the aim of preserving Shan traditional culture, literature and language, Shan new year festival will be celebrated in the town of Hpapun starting from November 26 to 27, according to Shan Literature and culture committee.—Kyaw Wunna
