Shan United signs three foreign players

Shan United have signed 3 foreign players as part of preparations for the upcoming season of the Myanmar National League.

The Taunggyi-based football club renewed the Ivoirian midfielder Maximin’s contract for one more season. The club also inked deals with Liberian striker Keith Nah (former player of Ayeyawady United) and Ghanaian midfielder Yakubu Abubakar (former player of Rakhine United) for one-season.

Keith Nah who is 5 feet and 9 inches tall has played in Myanmar National League teams like Chin United, Yadanarbon FC and Ayeyawady United before and achieved top goal scorer awards in Chin United (2013) and in Yadanarbon FC (2016). He has also played for Kedah FA of Malaysia Super League in 2015 and SD Ponferradina of La Liga II in 2018. He scored a total of 10 goals in his last team Ayeyawady United in 2019.

The six-foot tall Ghanaian midfielder Yakubu Abubakar played for Zeyar Shwe Myay FC in 2015, for Ayeyawady United in 2016-2017 and he showed his decent performance as a key player in his last team Rakhine United in 2019.

Head Coach U Aung Naing said “We will have to play local tournament as well as international tournament next year and we're sure to tackle with tough schedule. We will be able to rely on the foreign players like them for this kind of season. We signed them because they displayed their good performance in their former teams. I’m confident that they will be of good assistance for the team’s achievements.”

Shan United will sign 4 foreign players this year and we’re planning to sign one more foreigner in this weekend.—By Kyaw Htike Soe
