SHAN United, Yangon United and Dagon Port each clinched vital wins as the 2025 Myanmar National League Cup rolled on with the first day of group action on 4 May, while Yangon Royal continued to punch above their weight with a second straight draw.

At the Yangon United Sports Complex, Shan United edged University FC 1-0 in a tense contest. Shan dominated much of the game but were repeatedly frustrated by a disciplined and energetic University side. The breakthrough finally came in the 84 minute when Hein Phyo Win struck the winner, sealing all three points for Shan United.

MNL-II side Yangon Royal continued to make headlines at the University Stadium. After holding Yangon United in their opening match, they battled to another goalless draw — this time against Ayeyawady United by proving their defensive resolve against top-tier opposition.

Meanwhile, Yangon United bounced back in emphatic fashion after a slow start to the tournament. They demolished Kachin United 7-0 at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre. Okka Naing opened the scoring in the third minute, before Mogu ran riot with four goals at 18, 22, 59 and 85 minutes. Hein Zeyar Lin and Chit Aye also got on the scoresheet in a dominant display that reasserted Yangon’s title credentials.

Padonma Stadium saw another goal fest as Dagon Port thrashed YB United 6-1. Yazar Aung bagged a brace at 41 and 65 minute-mark, while Michael netted a hat-trick at 49, 50 and 90+3 minutes. Hlaing Myint Thu added one more in the 53 minute to complete the rout.

Matchday two continues on 5 May with Hanthawady United facing Chinland at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre, Dagon Star United taking on Rakhine United at Yangon United Sports Complex, Glory Goal meeting Rakhine United at University Stadium and Myawady squaring off against Silver Star FC at Padonma Stadium, respectively. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
