THE southern covered stairway of Shwesandaw Pagoda in Pyay Township, Bago Region, is being renovated with traditional Myanmar handicrafts, and an escalator is being installed, according to the Pagoda Board of Trustees.
As part of the ongoing upgrades, religious buildings are being renovated, the Buddhological Museum is being improved, the pagoda’s square is being expanded, and a four-storey Dhammayon is under construction.
“The next phase of the renovation focuses on the southern covered stairway, where a well-wisher has donated an escalator. Donors are invited to contribute towards the restoration of traditional Myanmar handicrafts for the stairway. A donation centre has also been set up at the pagoda,” said U Moe Zin, a member of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.
Shwesandaw Pagoda attracts pilgrims from across the country, with approximately 400 visitors daily, 800 on holidays, and around 1,000 on religiously significant days. — ASH/KTZH
