Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin received Mrs Ponnampe­ruma Arachchige Prabashini Ponnamperuma, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

They discussed strength­ening Myanmar-Sri Lanka bi­lateral relations and promoting cooperation in the religious and cultural sectors, enhanc­ing ties through the shared Theravada Buddhist tradition, the annual conferring of reli­gious titles to monks, recog­nition for the Shwe Jinnikaya, Ramayana Nikaya, Amara Pu­ranikaya, and Siram Nikaya from Sri Lanka, sending monks to Buddhist universities in both countries to teach and facilitating Sri Lankan visits to Myanmar’s renowned pagodas and temples.

Additionally, they explored opportunities for collaboration in developing religious and cul­ture-based tourism. — MNA/ TS
