State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, in her capacity as Chairperson of the National Central Committee for COVID-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment, made a video conference call from the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw with people working on the front lines combatting COVID-19 in Shan State yesterday.

The State Counsellor first extended her greetings, and U Aung Myint Than, administrator for 100-houses, from Kengtong Township presented difficulties in the public awareness programme, and assistance in providing medical tests to the returnees from foreign countries.

Ma Hnin Nway Aye, a volunteer of Our Lovely World and Programme Team, from Taunggyi Township, shared her experiences about public concerns regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, her activities as a volunteer leader in the COVID-19 Prevention Volunteer Group (Southern Shan), conducting training courses after attending the COVID-19 Basic Health Education Training course of the Shan State Health Department, programmes to entertain people at the quarantine camps and other volunteer activities.

U Sai Se Han Khay from Panlong Township briefed on public concerns about the pandemic from the returnees and experiences on facility quarantine of their family at the Computer University in Loilin Township.

In her discussions, the State Counsellor talked about three new cases; the possibility of more cases emerging in the next two to three weeks; not to feel serious anxiety about more cases and to strictly follow directives and orders.

She added the needs of more public awareness programmes, advantage of facility quarantine for close monitoring on the people rather than home quarantine, immediate report on the COVID-19 symptoms to avoid loss of lives due to delay and the extensive efforts of local government to ensure effective use of public donations.

The State Counsellor concluded the video conference call with wishes for good health and happiness during the Thingyan period. She also advised the people to help each other and keep a strong resolve to overcome the pandemic.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
