Statues of six soldiers who won the Aung San Thuriya medal, Myanmar’s highest award for gallantry and bravery in the face of the enemy, were inaugurated yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw to mark the 74th Armed Forces Day.

The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, unveiled the statues, which are being displayed for the public at the Memorial to Fallen Heroes in Nay Pyi Taw.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said the statues were erected to honor six heroes in the Tatmadaw history who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence and to protect Myanmar’s independence.

“The statues have been placed at the Memorial to Fallen Heroes so that future generations can remember the heroes forever, and to cultivate the national spirit and the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice for the country and the people,” said the Senior General.

He urged for the sustainable development of human resources with national spirit so they can make the supreme sacrifice for the future State, in accordance with the four oaths of the Tatmadaw. Retired senior military officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force unveiled the six statues in the presence of the Senior General and attendees.

Afterwards, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and retired senior officers laid wreaths at the Monument of the Memorial to Fallen Heroes and saluted those who sacrificed their lives for the country and the people.

The statues have been carved from marble. Each statue is two feet high and has been placed on top of a four-feet high stand, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.—MNA (Translated by TTN)
