The Steering Committee for Organizing All-Round Youth Development Festival (Magway) held a coordination meeting for the upcoming festival at the Ministry of Information’s meeting hall in Nay Pyi Taw at 2 pm yesterday. The festival is scheduled to be held from 14 to 16 December.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Dr Pe Myint and Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Magway Region Chief Minister Dr Aung Moe Nyo, Deputy Minister for Information U Aung Hla Tun, Magway Region ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general, and officials from the Magway Region cabinet.
Dr Pe Myint’s speech
In his capacity as Chairman of the Steering Committee, Union Minister Dr Pe Myint said a All-Round Youth Development Festival was successively held in Yangon in 2017 and another one in Mandalay in 2018. He said this festival in Magway will be organized with improvements, will include numerous sectors that focus on developing youths, and should include new sectors for that purpose. He said the experience garnered from the festivals support youth development and also aims to be a source of strength in their lives.
The Union Minister youths of this generation are keenly interested in news, information and technology and thus, these topics must be incorporated into the festival. He said they should include sharing information on the shift to the Unicode system in addition to changing uses to digital technology.
The Union Minister urged the subcommittees to consider the needs of youths when organizing their respective sectors. He said to include items that would pique the interest of youths in informative booths at the festival and to also add in new beneficial sectors.
The Union Minister said roundtable discussions aimed at youths should include topics that interest young people and gives them a chance to participate in as well. He said only this will garner the numerous benefits for youths from the all-round development festival.

Dr Myo Thein Gyi’s speech
Next, Steering Committee Vice Chairman 1 Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi said basic education schools, technical and vocational high schools and government technical institutes of the Ministry of Education will be assisting in the successful organization of the All-Round Youth Development Festival (Magway). He said these schools will also set up educational booths at the festival and they are therefore making necessary preparations.
The Union Minister said they will include information sharing on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in addition to topics concerning the technology sector, dangers of narcotics, youth healthcare, adhering to traffic rules, social living for each stage of youth, and negative effects of video games. He said they will share the experiences and performances of Myanmar youths who participated in international technology competitions.
The Union Minister said his ministry will display items relating to technology, news and information, and furthermore, will also organize educational booths and roundtable discussions for youths.
Next, Steering Committee Vice Chairman 2 and Chief Minister of Magway Region Dr Aung Moe Nyo explained his cabinet’s process of forming working committees and their progress in their assigned tasks. This was followed by Steering Committee Joint Secretary 1 and Director-General of the Information and Public Relations Department, U Ye Naing, explaining the preparations for the youth festival, future processes and matters required to be discussed prior to making decisions.
Next, subcommittee members explained the status of their respective assigned tasks and attendees engaged in general rounds of discussions. The Steering Committee Chairman concluded the meeting with a closing speech.
The All-Round Youth Development Festival aims to promote the value of knowledge, skills and ethical values as well as developing the five strengths – physical, mental, ethics, friendship, and strength – in order to establish the future of Myanmar society with the positive thoughts and ideas of youths. – MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
