Electricity will be distributed to 288 villages in five townships in Mandalay Region through Public Finance Initiative system.

 

The projects will be firstly implemented by a tender winning company. Upon completion, the projects will be handed over to the regional government. The regional government will repay the cost of the projects to the company according to the agreement year after year.

 

“ Electricity will be distributed to 92 villages in Meiktila Township, 40 villages in Thazi Townhsip,  97 villages in Pyawbwe Township, 28 villages in Myingyan Township and 31 villages in Yamethin Township thorough PFI system” said Regional Minister for Electricity, Energy and Construction U Zarni Aung at the regional Hluttaw on 1 April.

 

The projects will be completed by April, 2020 and the total estimated cost for the projects is K 12.57 billion. K 4 billion will be allocated in 2018-2019 FY, K 7.3 billion in 2019-2020 FY and K 1.256 billion in 2020-2021 FY, according to the report of PFI. 2898 villages in Mandalay region have had electricity but 1901 villages need to have access to electricity, according to the records of regional government.
