FROM January to November 2024, approximately 850,000 domestic and international tourists visited various destinations in the Taninthayi Region, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Taninthayi Region).
Among the region’s attractions, the Myeik Archipelago, with its over 800 islands, remains the top destination for both local and international visitors. The archipelago currently boasts 64 licensed hotels, of which 45 are actively operating.
The Taninthayi Region Tourism Business Committee has held 16 coordination meetings to systematically develop the hotel and tourism sectors across the region. These meetings have led to the issuance of 15 pre-construction permits for hotel projects, 14 new hotel business licences, three new guesthouse licences, 25 new tour operation business licences, three new tour guide licences, 55 regional tour guide licences, and the renewal of 38 hotel business licences, eight guesthouse licences, 32 tour operation business licences and 82 regional tour guide licences.
These initiatives aim to foster sustainable growth and further enhance the tourism sector within Taninthayi Region. — ASH/TMT
