A MILITARY transport aircraft skidded off the runway at the Yangon International Airport yesterday morning while preparing for a training flight, resulting in the temporary closure of the runway.

The Y-8 aircraft with six crew members on board skidded about 2,300 feet from the departure end of the runway due to an engine failure, according to a press statement issued by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

No one was injured, and there was no damage to the plane, according to the news release.

The aircraft was taking off for training flight to Nyaungdon in the Ayeyaady Delta.
