The Taunggyi Tazaungdine traditional hot-air balloon fes­tival will take place at the Ah­weiya hot-air balloon ground in Taunggyi in Shan State (South) on 21-27 November, according to Director U Htin Aung Naing from the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

 

The festival will be held in the same way as before the COVID-19 pandemic with day balloons and night balloons. Currently, the hotels, motels and guest houses in Taunggyi and the surrounding areas are already full with bookings of vis­itors from across the country.

 

“The Taunggyi Tazaungdine Hot-air Balloon Festival is a fa­mous festival of Taunggyi that people from all over the coun­try come and enjoy. It could not be held in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was briefly held in 2022. This year, it will be held for seven days crowded like before the COV­ID-19 period and plans are un­derway to release eight or nine hot-air balloons per day. During the day, the festival comprises releasing of two-legged and four-legged balloons and at night, Seinnapan and Nyamee­gyi will be launched,” said U Htin Aung Naing.

 

The festival is celebrated around the Tazaungmone Full Moon Day in Taunggyi and there are two kinds of hot-air balloon competitions namely the Day hot-air balloon and the Night hot-air balloon. — ASH/MKKS
