A gang of teak thieves were arrested together with illegal teak logs and sawn teaks in “Kabyinlwin” protected forest in Wuntho Township, Katha district, Sagaing region on 30th September.
According to information received, a combined team comprised of forest police and local police led by assistant director U Myint Naing Oo of Katha District Forest Department conducted a search in the “Kabyinlwin” protected forest.
The search led to the discovery of 35 illegal teak logs weighing 13.766 tons, 169 illegal sawn teaks, weighing 2.1026 tons and related items. The authorities also arrested five people who were involved in illegal activities.
They were identified as Win Cho, San Lin Tun, Aung Myo Thu, Lin Aung and Htet Paing, all from Thet Kal Kyin village in Indaw Township.
The search for three people who run away from the scene is still underway.
