Teenager swept by muddy floods in southern Algeria

ALGIERS, Sept. 9

A yet unnamed young boy was missing in muddy floods caused by torrential rain in southern Algerian province of Bechar, the official APS news agency reported Sunday.

Citing local authorities, APS news added that fire-fighting units had launched a wide scale search operation backed up by security forces and local citizens.

The floods were caused by the torrential rain that hit Bechar and other provinces late on Saturday.

The rain also disrupted road traffic by causing several road closures.

Weather forecast warned that more heavy torrential rain would fall on Monday and Tuesday across several provinces in southern, western and eastern Algeria.
