Kaw Thoung 28 June
A total of 23 illegal migrant workers were handed over by Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterparts at the border town of Kawthoung, Taninthayi Region yesterday.
Migrant workers were sent to Thailand through illegal route on 22 January this year by brokers to work in Thailand. When a vehicle carrying them crashed on Asia Highway-4 in southern Thailand, four migrant workers died on the spot and other migrant workers who survived from the accident were detained in Ranaung and deported to Kawthoung yesterday.
The returnees were welcomed by officials from the office of Kawthoung District Administration, the Township GAD, Township Police Station, District Immigration and Labor Department and the Department of Social Welfare.
The authorities including police, immigration and labour officers provided necessary assistance to them and staff of the health department provided medical care to them.—Kyaw Soe (Kawthoung)
