Thailand deports 28 Illegal Myanmar migrant workers to Tachilek

Tachilek, 4 July

28 illegal Myanmar migrant workers including 16 men, nine women and three children were handed over by the Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterpart at Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 yesterday.

The returnees were welcomed by personnel from Tachilek Township General Administration Department, the Labor Department, the Anti-human Trafficking Police Force, the Disaster Management Department and the Caring and Negotiating Committee for Myanmar Citizens (CNCMC), a Me Sai-based welfare society.

Myanmar authorities provided necessary assistance to the returnees to go back homes. The Thai government had arrested and detained them as they did not have work permits, and were found holding expired border passes.

A total of 1148 illegal Myanmar migrant workers including 736 men, 372 women and 40 children have been handed over by Thailand to Myanmar from January 1 to July 3 this year.—Phyolay (Tachilek)
