Tachilek, 26 September

A total of 41 illegal Myanmar migrant workers including 35 men and six women who have been detained previously for crossing the border illegally were handed over by the Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterpart at the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 this morning.

The returnees were welcomed by Colonel Min Min Tun from the Tatmadaw Cantonment in the town of Tachilek, Assistance Director of the sub-District Immigration and Population Department U Thant Zin, the Township Administrator U Tin Oo and departmental officials, and provided free medical check-up and other necessary assistances to them.

The returnees will be allowed to go back home after being placed under seven-day observation at a facility quarantine center in the town of Tachilek, Shan State (East).  If they are free of infection, they will be sent back to their place of residence. But the returnees with COVID-19 will need to isolate for at least 10 days. Afterwards, Colonel Min Min Tun presented hand gel, soaps, face shields and masks to the returnees from Thailand.—Ya Say(IPRD)
