With the aim of ensuring local edible oil security and increasing the production of oilseed crops, local farmers are mainly growing groundnut, sesame and sunflower this year’s winter crops growing season in Thegon Township of Bago Region.
A total of 4,666 acres of groundnut have been allocated to grow in Thegon Township of Bago Region since November this year, according to the Township Agriculture Department. The yields of crops are depending on the soil, climate, and take care of plants. As the plants are susceptible to pests, pesticides are commensurately used in farmland.
A total of 67,857 acres of winter crops including 4,666 acres of groundnut, 2339 acres of sesame, 114 acres of winter sunflower, 36261 acres of bean varieties, 8226 acres of corn, 4032 acres of sugarcane, 421 acres of onion, 207 acres of chili, 11290 acres of vegetable and 271 acres of varieties flower are allocated to grow this season in Thegon Township of Bago Region.
In order to achieve high yield, officials from the Township Agriculture Departments are making field trips and providing farmers with necessary assistance such as agricultural techniques, good quality seeds, methods of planting and prevention of pest infestation.—Ko Kyaw(IPRD)
