19 August

In Honduras, three people have been killed and seven injured in fighting between fans of rival soccer teams.

The violence broke out before a game between Motagua and Olimpia at the National Stadium on Saturday in the country's capital, Tegucigalpa.

Some fans also forced their way through riot police and onto the pitch.

A spokesperson for a local hospital told Reuters that three people died, with seven others shot and stabbed.

A bus carrying Motagua players was also reportedly attacked, leaving three injured. Images from the team's Twitter account show windows broken on the vehicle.

The National Football League canceled the game and both teams issued statements condemning violence at sports events.
