At least three people were killed, and three others wounded early Monday in a road accident in southwest Nigeria, the traffic police said.

Ahmed Umar, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the southwestern state of Ogun, told reporters in the state capital of Abeokuta that a mini-van traveling along a busy expressway in Ogun had lost control and turned over due to high speed, causing casualties.

"Three people were injured, and three others lost their lives in the accident," Umar said a total of six people, including four males and two females, were traveling in the vehicle.

The injured victims were evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue for identification by their relatives, the official said.

He admonished motorists to shun driving beyond speed limits and violating road safety guidelines to prevent avoidable deaths and losses.

Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving.
