Thukha Dagon public rental housing applicants started signing contracts on 20 November, as confirmed by the applicants themselves. The applicants for 1,728 flats were chosen through transparent lots-drawing winners on 13 and 14 November. The signing period ends on 30 November.
“We submitted the rent and signed the contract this morning. Each group of five applicants entered the respective counter and paid advance rent for three months, one-month rent for December, a K11,000 fee for security and maintenance, and K8,000 for tax stamps,” says U Tun Shwe, a lucky applicant from the first round. Each applicant needs to bring three copies of the household list, the citizenship scrutiny card (front and back), and notification letters confirming rental rights given on the day of the lots drawing, respectively. They also need three copies of four by six inches size photos of each family member submitted during the application process.
Another applicant, Ma Htway Yi, told The Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM): “They said we had to submit our photos and write our names and CSC numbers on the back of each photo. We heard that any extra person that’s not included in the application is ineligible. We’ll go in later days since we have time until the end of this month.” The housing project is located at the junction of No 2 and No 7 Highways near the No 2 tollgate in Yangon. It encompasses 194 blocks, with each block containing 16 flats.
“Those who didn’t get lucky in the first round could apply again in February. They had another chance in the second round in April,” says Ma Nilar Kyaw, a Thanlyin resident who did not win any flat in the first lots drawing. The flats belonging to the 14-November lots-drawing winners still need wiring and some finishing touches. So, they are not required to sign the contracts this month.
