THE Myanmar national women's football team will face Asian football powerhouses South Korea and North Korea in Round 3, or the final round, of the Tokyo Olympic women's football qualifiers.
The official draw for Round 3 of the Asian Qualifiers was held on Friday at the AFC head-quarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The eight participating teams were divided into two groups, A and B.
Myanmar was placed in Group A with strong teams — South Korea, North Korea, and ASEAN football country Viet Nam. The Group A matches will be hosted by South Korea.
Meanwhile, Group B comprises China, Australia, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei. Group B matches will be hosted by China.The final round qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s football event will be held in early February 2020.
Four teams — the two best teams from each group — will advance to the play-offs stage, which will be held in March, 2020. The play-offs will feature away and home plays, and the two best teams will directly advance to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic women's football competition, according to the AFC.
The women’s football competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will commence on 22 July, 2020 — two days before the Games’ official opening ceremony.
