Japan's health ministry confirmed 1,514 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Wednesday.

The figure is up 180 from a week ago.

Seven patients in the capital are seriously ill, up one from Tuesday. Two patients died.

Nationwide, there were 12,094 new infections and 22 deaths on Wednesday.
