The jetliner left the largest Sri Lankan city at around 7:30 p.m., local time, about 10 hours after the deadly terror attacks occurred.

A 54-year old Japanese tourist said that she had been to a place near one of the bombed churches one day before the incident. She said that she might have been caught in the bombing if she had been there the following day instead.

A 26-year-old man said that he was asked by his tour guide to stay inside his hotel room after the blasts. He said he feared the hotel might be attacked, too.

A 21-year-old woman said she was concerned about being able to return to Japan. She said the airport in Colombo was under tight security and very crowded. She added the situation appeared confused.
