Two people were killed and seven others including a Buddhist monk injured in a traffic accident in Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region early this morning.

The accident took place near milepost 258/5 on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway at about 3:40 a.m. today. A passenger bus driven by a man named Min Hein Htut, 24 years old rear ended a light truck heading to Mandalay from Nay Pyi Taw. Two women died on the spot and seven others including a Buddhist monk and the driver from the light truck were hurt in the incident.

The injured people were sent to a nearby public hospital and action has been taken against the passenger bus driver over reckless driving by the police.—Chan Thar
