Approximately 550 shady trees were planted in the compound of the Mohnyin Degree College in Mohnyin, Kachin State this morning during an event to mark the World Rainforest Day.

The activity was organized by the township municipal affairs committee. The participants including Amyotha Hluttaw Representative U Min Swe Naing, Deputy Commissioner U Khin Maung Lay, the township administrator, departmental staff, volunteers from civil society organizations, faulty members, students and firefighters grew different saplings such as teak, hardwood and gold mahor trees totaling 550.

The Forest Department also organized a similar event in the precinct of a government technical college on 19 June in which more than 1,000 shady trees were planted by the partakers.--Kyaw Kyaw Htwe (Mohnyin)
