Minbu, 6 June
To commemorate World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, a collective tree planting event was held at 8 a.m. on June 5 along Milepost 5/1 on the Kyauktan–Thikone Road near Maung Ma Kan Village in Minbu (Saku) Township, Magway Region.
Minbu District Administration Body Chairman U Aye Lwin, along with U Than Tun Oo, head of the Minbu District Forest Department, and other officials, handed out saplings to district and township-level authorities. A total of 300 saplings were planted, including padauk, tamar, yinma, Taiwan vanda, and meze. Officials also toured the planting site to inspect the activities.
As part of the broader initiative, the Township Forestry Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has prepared 44,000 saplings for public distribution. These are available at the Kanye and Kyauktan Permanent Nursery Gardens and are intended to support tree planting across the township during the rainy season. Members of the public are encouraged to visit either nursery and collect saplings of their choice free of charge.— Maung Maung (Minbu)
