Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

It's the first meeting of its kind since May last year, when the three met in Tokyo.

The trilateral summit comes as North Korea is showing a provocative stance toward the US ahead of a year-end deadline for denuclearization talks set by Pyongyang.

The three leaders are expected to jointly announce the outcome of their discussions after the summit.
