US President Donald Trump will visit Japan in late May as a state guest, making him the first foreign leader to meet the new Emperor. Crown Prince Naruhito is set to ascend the throne on May 1.

Members of Japan' Cabinet decided on Friday to invite President Trump from May 25 to 28.

Japanese and US officials are planning for the president to attend a grand sumo tournament and play golf with Abe.

Before Trump's visit, Abe is slated to meet with him in Washington on April 27. Trump is expected to travel to Japan one more time in June for the Group of 20 summit in Osaka.
