Tugboat stranded in Chindwin River

A tugboat named “Zwe Myint Tun” loaded with coal was stranded in the Chindwin River near Shwekyin Village in Kalewa Township, Sagaing Region this morning.

A tugboat operated by a helmsman identified as U Ko Naing from Yesagyo Township capsized in the Chindwin River after it hit rocks near Zeedaunt Village. The tugboat was washing away and was stranded on the sandbank in the Chindwin River. The boat was carrying nearly 1,752 tons of coal belonging to Htoo Han Thit Company.

No casualties were reported in the incident and arrangements are being made to salvage the sunken tugboat.—Thet Han (Kalewa)
