RESEARCHERS  from  Mandalay University and Moscow State University have discovered two new species of frogs in Magway Region.

Dr  Than  Zaw  from  the  Zoological  Department  of  Mandalay  University  and  Nikolay  A  Poyarkov  of  Mos-cow State University found a population of two new species at Paukin Village in Pakokku Township  and  Kanpauk  Village  in  Yezagyo  Township,  and  named  them  Microhylairrawaddy  and  Microhylafodiens.

“We  found  the  first  frog  near  Ayeyawady  Bridge  in  Pakokku Township.

After  DNA  tests  it  was  found  that  the  frog  is  a  new  species.  As  we  found  it  near  the  Ayeyawady  River,  we  included  “Irrawaddy”  in  its  name. The other frog is from Kanpauk  Village  in  Yezagyo  Township,” said Professor Dr Than Zaw.

Local  residents  are  familiar  with  the  new    species,  but  they  have  been  recorded  as  new  species.
