THE opening ceremony of  Training to Enhance Electoral Capacity for 2020 General Election for officials  and  staff  from  various  levels  of  election  sub-commissions was held at Grand Amara Hotel,  Nay  Pyi  Taw  yesterday  morning.  Union  Election  Com-mission (UEC) Chairman U Hla Thein  attended  and  addressed  the event.


The  event  was  attended  by  UEC  members  and  officials  from Commission Office, course attendees  from  State/Region,  district  and  township  election  sub-commissions  and  officials  from International Institute for Democracy  and  Electoral  Assistance (International IDEA).


In  his  address  UEC  Chair-man  said  this  was  the  second  capacity building course with the first successfully held for 104 attendees. The course will instruct about the important lessons on election work processes with 10 headings.  As  the  course  was  a  training-the-trainer  course,  attendees  are  to  systematically  learn  the  lessons  taught  at  the  course while sharing their experiences. Only then can they con-duct multiplier courses without difficulties said the UEC Chair-man. Next, International IDEA Senior Programme Manager Mr Parvinder Singh also addressed the opening ceremony.


Afterwards,  a  commemorative  group  photo  was  taken  and the first day programme of the  course  was  continued.  The  course was jointly conducted by UEC  and  International  IDEA  and was attended by 93 personnel  from  State/Region,  district  and township election sub-com-missions.— MNA(Translated by Zaw Min)
