THE Union Election Commis­sion (UEC) and the Myanmar Press Council (MPC) held a coordination meeting yesterday afternoon at the UEC Office’s meeting hall.

 

The meeting was attended by UEC Chair U Ko Ko, along with the vice-chairpersons and commission members, as well as the chairman and vice-chair­persons of the Myanmar Press Council and officials from the UEC Office.

 

In his opening remarks, the UEC Chairman stated that the commission and the MPC must cooperate to ensure that accurate information is shared with the public throughout the pre-election period, election period and post-election pe­riod. He emphasized that the commission would carry out its responsibilities impartially, independently and fairly, en­suring free and fair elections. He also called on the Myanmar Press Council to support the commission’s efforts through media cooperation so that the public can access accurate and timely information.

 

Following this, the chair­man and vice-chairpersons of the Myanmar Press Council discussed proposed updates and additions to the election media guidebook previous­ly used for the 2020 General Election, aimed at supporting journalists.

 

The vice-chairman and members of the UEC then ex­changed views on the neces­sary updates to the guidebook and other potential areas of me­dia collaboration. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the UEC Chairman. — MNA/ KZL
