UEC, IDEA jointly conduct multiplier course on enhancing electoral capacity

A multiplier course on enhancing electoral capacity of the staff kicked off at the meeting room of the General Administration Department in Khamti, Sagaing Region this morning.

In his opening address, Chairperson of the district election sub-commission U Khin Maung Nyunt said that, the 2020 general elections would be held based on the five criteria—freedom, fairness, transparency, credibility and public reliability—in order to hold a free and fair general election in accordance with the people’s desire. The Union Election Commission (UEC) designated the year 2019 as voter list compilation year in order to help people cast their vote without losing their right of voting.

 

The UEC is also drawing up a strategic plan 2019-2020 and is allegedly cooperating with the Union Government Office Ministry and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population to compile the correct voter list. Next, an official from the the district election sub-commission elaborated on holding the training course.

The two-day training course jointly organized by the UEC and International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) is being attended by polling station officers, departmental staff, and ward and village administrators.—Sanay Maung
