Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw inspected the Yangon-Pathein road projects and preparedness for natural disasters via video conferencing yesterday.
At the video meeting, Director-General (Civil) of Road Department U Yan Naing Zaw explained the processes of Yangon-Pathein road upgrading project, installation of sheet piles beside the road to retain soils on the road during the raining season, and ongoing works.
Chief Engineer of Road Department U Kyaw Naing reported on the upgrading processes of Yangon-Pathein road (Yangon Region road section).
The Union Minister and officials inspected the upgrading processes of Yangon-Pathein road via the video meeting. Special taskforces No (2), and (3) are upgrading the road.
Upon the reports, the Union Minister expressed thanks and appreciation for the progress of Yangon-Pathein road, and preparedness for COVID-19 response actions.
Yangon-Pathein highway is one of the main roads for public transportations and commodity flows. Therefore, the road should have standard quality, said the Union Minister.
He also urged the officials to prepare for natural disasters, try their best to meet the projects’ targets of completion, follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports during COVID-19, and consider the clearance of traffic and road accidents during the road upgrading processes.
The road section in Yangon Region will be upgraded into a 48-foot wide concrete road, covering 12 miles, from 5-mile 4-furlong to 17-mile and 4-furlong. It was 80.5 per cent completed.
The road section in Ayeyawady Region will be upgraded into a 30-foot concrete road, covering 24 miles, from 17-mile 4-furlong to 41-mile 4-furlong. It was 83 per cent completed.
The upgrading 36-mile section of Yangon-Pathein road is targeted to fully complete in the end of May. It is now 83 per cent completed.
Director (Civil) of road special taskforce No (16), Department of Road, Daw Thit Thit Aung, explained the construction processes of Pathein Bridge No (2).
The Union Minister, Permanent Secretary, Director-Generals, and officials inspected the bridge construction processes via videos. The construction of the Pathein Bridge No (2) is 78 per cent completed.
The bridge is 2,380 feet long with a motorway measuring 28 feet, and two payments measuring 5 feet each in both sides.
The weight the bridge can withstand is HS 25 Load Class. — MNA
