Union Minister for Education Dr Nyunt Pe recently participated in two significant events: the ASEAN Education Ministers Dialogue on Early Childhood Care and Education Reform Policy in Southeast Asia and the ASEAN Higher Education Conference (AHEC) 2023 Webinar.

During the ASEAN Education Ministers Dialogue, the Union minister highlighted the importance of early childhood care and education for cognitive and overall development in children. Myanmar expressed its commitment to establishing an ASEAN regional network to exchange experiences and ideas in this domain. He also shared Myanmar’s enactment of the Early Childhood Development Law (2014) and the implementation of a five-year strategy for early childhood care and development. The participating countries jointly made a declaration on early childhood care and education.

Later, Union Minister Dr Nyunt Pe attended the AHEC 2023 Webinar and delivered an online speech on “Government’s Role in Linking Maritime Sector and Education” for technology-based maritime trade 5.0. He emphasized that nearly 90 per cent of global trade is conducted through maritime routes and highlighted the crucial role of the government in bridging the gap between the maritime sector and education. The speech discussed policies, funding support, curriculum development, and fostering relations between the sector and training schools to enhance vocational education.

The events aimed to raise awareness about quality early childhood care and education and to foster cooperation among ASEAN member countries. The webinar saw the participation of over 800 high-ranking officials.
