UNION Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein, along with Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein, Commander of the South-East Command Maj- Gen Kyaw Lin Maung, and other officials, visited examination centres at Shwe Nat Taung Basic Education High School, No 7 Basic Education High School, No 12 Basic Education High School in Mawlamyine, Mon State, as well as Basic Education High School in Chaungzon and Basic Education High School in Kyaikmaraw, yesterday morning to observe the students sitting for the English subject of the 2026 matriculation examination.
A total of 10,934 students registered to take the matrication examination at 30 examination centres in Mon State, and 10,538 students took the English subject on the second day.
In the afternoon, the Union minister arrived at Mawlamyine University, meeting with the rector, pro-rector, professors, lecturers, and staff, instructing them to conduct research activities supporting regional development in the subjects studied at the university, to systematically implement the Quality Assurance (QA) system, and to explore how teachers can effectively apply AI, urging efforts to make library-based, project-based, and research-based learning a reality, and directing that the university be divided into zones with cleaning activities carried out in each zone to keep the campus clean and beautiful.
The Union minister then coordinated the staff’s presentations and toured the campus, visiting lecture halls, student dormitories, academic departments, and research centre.
She then visited Mawlamyine Education Degree College, meeting faculty members and students, and stated that, with some degree colleges planned to be upgraded to universities of education, students will have opportunities to continue learning advanced subjects and therefore need to strive for education now, emphasizing that trainees should dress in accordance with the culture and follow the rules systematically.
Afterwards, she presented grants to students from Mawlamyine Education Degree College and Dawei Education Degree College, touring the campus. — MNA/TH
