Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein participated in a videoconference on 6 January with the artistes who are taking part in COVID-19 response efforts.
At the meeting, Dr Tun Myint, Head of Yangon Region Public Health and Medical Services Department, explained the contribution of artistes in COVID-19 response efforts in Yangon Region.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein said that many performers contribute in COVID-19 response efforts by reaching out to help the general public, and it will become an unforgettable milestone.
Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe said that COVID-19 could not be completely eradicated, and the disease may continue for several months. He called on the performers not to slow down their efforts in the COVID-19 response process.
Only adhering to COVID-19 preventive guidelines will be able to control the spread of COVID-19, said the Union Minister, who pointed out that only when the COVID-19 spread is reduced to an acceptable level, the peoples’ businesses, education and social matters will be able to resume normal operations. He called on the performers to use various ways to educate the general public about COVID-19.
The Union Minister emphasized the crucial role of performers in changing the habits of the general public for control of COVID-19 in a short period. People love performers and are more obedient to their words, said the Union Minister citing research findings.
He said that the songs, videos, cartoons and messages provided by musicians, performers and cartoonists will be sent to State/Region Public Health Departments.
He expressed thanks for performers and cartoonists for their contributions in the Stop COVID-19 Yellow Campaign in Yangon Region.
Actors, musicians, traditional dancers, composers, singers, cartoonists, presenters, and donors who participated in the virtual meeting discuss on their roles in COVID-19 response efforts.
In his closing speech, the Union Minister said that the suggestions of performers and the attendees are invaluable for COVID-19 response efforts. He has great respect for knowledge and opinions of them. He said that future works of the Ministry will be carried out in line with those ideas.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein said that they would continue arranging meetings with experts from various fields for COVID-19 response efforts.—MNA (Translated by Maung Maung Swe)
