Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi participated in an online workshop on university charters and university council, jointly organized by the ministry and Germany’s DAAD yesterday afternoon. Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Deputy Minister U Win Maw Tun, German Ambassador to Myanmar Thomas Neisinger, officials from DAAD and Central European University (CEU), education officials of Myanmar, the National Education Policy Commission Chairperson, the commission members, and rectors.


During the workshop, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi said that Myanmar is carrying out educational reform, and the country needs to draft and approve university charters, and form university councils in accordance with the charters. He invited the participants, including officials from universities in Germany and Viet Nam, to share their experiences in university development, promotion of quality in teaching and learning, capacity building for teachers and staff, promotion of collaboration with the private sector, undertaking research, human resources development and creating infrastructure. In the workshop, Dr Stefan Hase-Bergen, Head of the DAAD regional office Hanoi; DAAD Secretary General Dr Dorothea Rüland; Dr Christoph Strutz, Vice President of University of Hannover; and Vietnamese-German University President Professor Tomas Benz discussed their experiences on university charters, university councils and independent university management.
