A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye attended the Eleventh ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY XI) and the Seventh ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (7th AMMY + 3) in Vientiane, Lao PDR yesterday.
Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye discussed matters related to continue raising funds for ASEAN Youth Programme, funding for the movement of ASEAN University Student Council and the development of the scheme for ASEAN Youth Movement that will be implemented in 2021-2025 at the meeting, and they achieved ongoing consensus.
Then ministers for youths and heads of delegations from ASEAN countries together with Japan, Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China delivered their speeches.
In his remarks at the meeting, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said that Myanmar had already released Youth Policy and the process of implementation is underway. Moreover the Myanmar Youth Policy includes the development of the youths’ education, health, narcotic drugs and hazards that can cause harms, sports and recreation, employment opportunities, economics, politics, literature, arts, culture, research, science, technologies, public civics, natural resources, environmental conservation, peace, life security, gender equality, human rights and international relations.
Next, he stressed the importance for the development of the youths who are going to shoulder the future duties of the country, the conditions of today’s youths, and their needs are vary from states and regions of the country, the involvement of the youths in the process of setting up the policy. He added that efforts were being made to enjoy the right of equality for all the youths in corporation with all the ASEAN countries and would strive for promoting the cohesion among the youths. Moreover, rendering the voluntary service is being carried out through the participation of the youths and they also took part in programmes conducted by regional countries and ASEAN + 3. Also, matters related to exchanging experiences of the ASEAN Youths and enhancement of cooperation would be implemented at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials and delegates for youth affairs from ASEAN nations. The 23rd ASEAN Youth Meeting and the 5th ASEAN Youth Trade Fair were being held while the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting was in progress.
