Officials from the Department of Disaster Management under the supervision of National Disaster Management Committee are providing relief assistance, together with offering words of comfort and food, to the flood victims in Pyay, Shwedaung and Padaung townships in Bago Region.


Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye, officials, Hluttaw representatives and local authorities visited the temporary relief shelters and gave cash and other supplies.


The Union Minister and party presented K497,700 for the 237 flood victims at Koenawin Phaungdaw Oo pagoda in Pyay Township, K155,400 for 74 flood victims at Shwe Pyaung Pyaung pagoda, K142,800 for 68 flood victims at Shwe Myat Hman pagoda in Shwedaung Township, K386,400 for 184 flood victims in Htonebo Village of Padaung Township.


Dr Win Myat Aye and officials coordinated in evacuation of people near the bank erosion areas in Tharsikyun Village of Shwedaung Township.


A fibre rescue boat worth about K2 million and 10 sets of life jacket were also presented for the disaster preparedness, response and affected persons in Okpo Township.


During the meetings with the flood victims, the Union Minister and party explained the impacts of climate change such as drought and flood, the government’s measures on these disasters and measures against the COVID-19.
