Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye along with Kayin State Chief Minister Daw Nan Khin Htwe Myint, Kayin State Hluttaw Speaker, Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, Kayin State cabinet ministers, the director-general of Department of Disaster Management, the deputy director-general of Department of Social Welfare and officials comforted the Internally displaced persons at Myaing Gyi Ngu region and provide the benefits of COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan.

The Union Minister and party paid homage to Baddhada Ashin Nyanita at Nan-Oo Taw-Ya Monastery and donated Waso robe and offertories.

The Union Minister and party met the IDPs in IDP camps. The Union Minister said the government had been fulfilling the needs of the civilians apart from the current support for short-term benefits; plans are being made for long-term benefits; the government was focusing on internal peace and National Level Strategy was being implemented to resettle the internally displaced persons and to shut down the IDP camps so that the people could live again independently with safety and dignity; the two IDP camps in Kayin State has been implemented as per the Strategy and Kayin State is also included in the government-led Maternal & Child Cash Transfer (MCCT) Programme.

The Union Minister also said that the government was providing social pensions to the elderly aged 85 and over and implementing the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) to give people with disability and senior citizens between the ages of 80 and 85, and to support the IDPs to buy food.

The Union Minister said that the cash assistance should be effectively used as those are public funds and the people will benefit the long-term plans on education, healthcare, social and economic sectors.

The Kayin State Chief Minister said the government was not only giving relief assistance but also carrying out the plans for professional works and discussed with the war victims on receiving aid.

The Union Minister and party donated K208.14 million for 6,938 disabled people, K28.96 million for 724 households to buy foods and the Department of Social Welfare donated K7.38million for 246 senior citizens in 2 IDP camps, soap bars and lime powder bags to ethnic IDPs.—MNA (Translated by Ei Phyu Phyu Aung)
