Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, U Thaung Tun, received the Baroness Elizabeth Grace Sugg, British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations in Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday.

 

The British Parliamentary Under-Secretary was accompanied by Dan Chugg, the British Ambassador of United Kingdom.


Union Minister informed the British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State and delegation of the wide range of reform carried out by Myanmar to open up its economy to foreign trade and investment. He also informed the government’s efforts for the development of Rakhine State including job creation, poverty reduction, women empowerment, improvement of the health and education sectors. He expressed appreciation for UK’s humanitarian and development assistances to Myanmar.


The British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State acknowledged the Myanmar government’s effort to meet the challenges in Rakhine State. She affirmed that UK will continue to provide the development assistance to Myanmar as well as to support the investment promotion activities.
