THE opening  ceremony  of  2019  12th Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo  Championship  was  held at Aung San Indoor Sports Stadium,  Mingala  Taungnyunt  Township,  Yangon  Region  yesterday morning.


Present  at  the  event  were  Union  Minister  for  Health  and  Sports  Dr  Myint  Htwe,  Deputy  Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to Myanmar Mr Lee Sang Hwa,  Permanent  Secretary  Dr  Thet  Khaing  Win,  Department  of Sports and Physical Education Director-General U Myo Hlaing and officials, officials from ROK embassy,  Myanmar  Taekwondo  Federation  President  U  Mya  Han  and  executive  committee  member,  competing  team  lead-er, coaches and competitors and judges.


In  his  address  to  the  even  the Union Minister said Korean Ambassador’s  Cup  Taekwondo  Championship  was  held  since  2006 with an aim of prolonging the bilateral friendship and this was the  12th  time  it  was  being  held.  A total of 26 teams consisting of teams from six sports and physical education schools, ministerial department teams, state/region teams and club teams were participating  with  more  than  550  competitors. The Union Minister thanks the Republic of Korea for raising the level of Taekwondo in Myanmar  and  for  Myanmar  to  achieve success in international competitions.


Next,  Ambassador  of  ROK  to  Myanmar  Mr  Lee  Sang  Hwa  said cooperation programs were arranged and conducted in travel, culture, sports and other sectors to  increase  bilateral  relations.  The  ambassador  also  spoke  of  his happiness in observing the development of Korea’s traditional sports of Taekwondo in Myanmar. This  was  followed  by  Myanmar  Taekwondo Federation President U Mya Han delivering a speech of appreciation.


Afterwards, the Union Minister, ROK Ambassador, officials from  the  embassy,  Sports  and  Physical Education Department Director-General and Myanmar Taekwondo Federation President U Mya Han greeted the competing teams and members and observed the competition.


Later  in  the  afternoon  the  Union  Minister  attended  a  talk  held  in  University  of  Medicine  1  explaining  about  the  experience of Myanmar medical expert representative  group’s  United  Kingdom  study  tour  from  22  to  30  September  conducted  under  the invitation of Cambridge Global  Health  Partnership  (CGHP)  and Tropical Health & Education Trust (THET). The talk also covers arrangements made to open a National Medical Skill, Simulation and Research Center.


The  Union  Minister  commented on using the experience gained in the study tour according to the country’s situation, to continue cooperation with CGHP and THET group and the ministry’s  continued  support  for  National  Medical  Skill,  Simulation  and Research Center.
