Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw, in his capacity as the patron of Myanmar Engineering Council, joined the second quarter meeting of the council via videoconferencing from Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

In delivering an opening speech, the Union Minister instructed for implementation of the council’s objectives which were adopted after its establishment on 28 November 2013 to uphold and upgrade the dignity, ethics and quality of the Myanmar citizen engineers, graduate technicians and technicians; to explore good methods and research that can be applied effectively with the least environmental impacts on natural and human resources through information and communication technologies; and to enforce the guidelines for prescribed standards, to meet norms in engineering services, to ensure suitable technologies and safety measures, and to comply with ethics and rules.

The MEC also scrutinized the grading of 320 companies, and it has reached in global ranking within a seven years short period.

The Union Minister also urged the council to make concerted efforts to gain more success, to protect lives and properties of public and to generate registered engineers, graduate technicians and engineering experts.

MEC Chairman Dr Charlie Than made a power-point presentation regarding the performance of MEC between June and October 2020 and work plans. Then, they appointed the new Joint Secretary (1) position, selected a new council member and substituted new member for an executive position in line with the rules and regulations.

The Joint Secretary (2) of MEC presented the approval of the first three-quarter meeting while the working committee chairmen briefed the completed works and the Patrons of MEC coordinated the meeting.—MNA (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
